Solving Systems of 2D Geometric Constraints

Abstract

This talk presents an overview of the problems involved in solving systems of geometric constraints. A basic overview and history will be given followed by a detailed examination of solving these systems by numerical methods. Other associated problems such as over and under constrained systems as well as fully-constrained but unsolvable systems will also be discussed.

About the speaker

Glen Gray is originally from Tampa, Fla. He recieved his Masters degree in pure mathematics from Florida State University in 1979. He taught college mathematics for six years then switched to the private sector where he began writing geometric modeling software for Harris Corp, and later for Varimetrix Corp. He has taken post graduate courses at FIT in computer science and currently he is the manager of the geometry group at Varimetrix.
