Press Release

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Speakers representing academia, industry and government, from Florida Institute of Technology, Harris Corp. and NASA, will present “How Computing Changed the World” Jan. 17, 7-8 p.m. in the Hartley Room of the Denius Student Center on campus. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The presentation addresses how the digital age has changed so many aspects of daily life, such as banking, shopping, journalism and entertainment. There is now DNA analysis for forensics and gene discovery in the battle against diseases. Advances in computing have led to the creation of such companies as Apple, Google and Microsoft, and have contributed to advances in science and engineering.

“The general public typically consumes these products and services. In this lecture we will explore some of the underlying ideas in computing, which are of interest,” said Philip Chan, Florida Tech associate professor of computer sciences.
