Course Contents:
This is an advanced topics database course focused on spatial databases. The course will be conducted as a research seminar. Generally we will focus on material in the book. However, participants will be required to read the material and discuss it in class, i.e., the material will be not be presented in lecture format. Each week there will be a reading assignment from the book (approximately one chapter). There will also be a quiz on the reading and any other material discussed in class from the prior week (typically on Thursdays). In addition, participants will be required to give one 20-30 minute presentation on a spatial application related to the course material. These presentations can be given any time after the 3rd week (approximately), and students are encouraged to do them as soon as possible. Finally, students will also be required to do a class project. This will involve some programming, but will primarily involve researching the literature on Spatial Databases.

Grading:
Final grade will be determined as follows (approximately): quizzes - 60%, presentation - 15%, project - 25%,
