Background
Computer Science (CS) has impacted our daily lives--from how we
communicate to how we shop. It has also helped advance our
understanding in various academic fields such as biology, physics, and
medicine. CS has been an Advanced Placement (AP) subject since 1984.
Currently, one of the 16 Brevard public high schools offers AP CS
consistently.
Goals
- help teachers learn problem solving via animation
with Alice--an educational software
designed for easier transition to Java, which is used in AP CS.
- indirectly raise interests in CS and Alice among students (and a
student competition on Alice next March).
Audience
- teachers at high schools who are interested in potentially
teaching/incorporating computer science materials in the near future
Incentives for Participants
- Stipend of $100 (Brevard public or prviate high school teachers)
- Lunch during workshop
Registration
- To allow all Brevard high schools to participate, we have slots
for about one representative per school.
- If more than one representative per school registers,
additional representatives will be put on a waiting list
(and become participants if all slots are not filled after
Oct 5th)
- By Oct 5th (Friday):
