Background
Computer Science (CS) has impacted our daily lives--from how we
communicate to how we shop. It has also helped advance our
understanding in various academic fields such as biology, physics, and
medicine. CS has been an Advanced Placement (AP) subject since 1984.
In recent years, one of the 16 Brevard public high schools offers AP
CS consistently.
Goals
- help teachers learn problem decomposition and abstraction,
methods, parameters, and recursion
- indirectly raise interests in CS among students.
Audience
- teachers at high schools who are interested in potentially
teaching/incorporating computer science materials in the near future
- some basic computer science and java programming knowledge
Incentives for Participants
- Stipend of $100
- Lunch during workshop
